300 Women Benefit as TotalEnergies, NNPC, Partners Donate Incubation Hub, Starter Packs

Friday, March 11, 2022 will remain significant in the lives of 300 women from Shagamu, Ogun State who benefited from Poultry Project starter packs from TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, NNPC limited, and their partners, CNOOC, Sapetro, and Prime. The empowerment program started with a training to improve their poultry production techniques.

The beneficiaries were presented with the start-up kits at the handover ceremony of the packs and a solar-powered incubation hub in the rural community of Makun, Sagamu where the incubator is sited.

The presentation to recipients was made by Mrs. Moyosola Areola, CSR Business Development and Projects Manager TUCN and Mrs. Olubunmi Lawson, Deputy Manager Sustainability and Community Development NNPC/NAPIMS, who jointly led the sponsor delegation to the event.

Mrs. Areola encouraged the starter pack recipients to apply the gains of their training, expand their businesses and extend the benefits to other women in the community saying, "TUPNI, NNPC and partners have trained over 300 women and shared starter packs that will enable each of you to start your individual small poultry businesses. Please take full advantage of what you have been taught and given by the companies and ensure to sustain your poultry business. Remember that the incubation hub is available to all of you and other poultry owners to hatch eggs and purchase hatched chicks. Keep your poultry businesses alive". Mrs. Lawson also urged the hub manager, Mrs Adetokunbo Ogunlesi to make judicious use of the facility with a view to expanding it.

In his response, the Lisa Makun of Shagamu, Chief Oduwaye Adegbenro a community leader, commended the companies for their initiative to improve the livelihood of women in the area. He exhorted the women to multiply the benefits of their business in the community.

Expressing gratitude to the donor companies, Mrs Ogunlesi, who responded on behalf of beneficiaries, assured that the facility would be deployed judiciously and prayed for the companies to flourish in order to do more for women. Similar sentiments were expressed by the program implementer, Abubakar Adamu Abubakar.

This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program on Improved Poultry Production has in the past supported 300 women in Gombe state, northeast Nigeria (2020), and commenced the training of women in Ogun state southwest, Nigeria (2021).
